Galaxy ranges for business

Samsung makes Galaxy phones for a wide range of budgets and jobs, so a fleet can use one manufacturer for very different roles. In broad terms:

  • Galaxy A range: lower-cost phones for staff who mainly need calls, messaging, email and a few apps
  • Galaxy S range: Samsung's flagship phones, for heavier users, managers and anyone who relies on the camera
  • Galaxy Z foldables: phones that open into a larger screen, useful for people who review documents on the move
  • Rugged devices: the Galaxy XCover phones and Galaxy Tab Active tablets, built for frontline and field work
  • Galaxy Tab tablets: larger screens for forms, presentations and field data, with a SIM or eSIM for mobile data

Ranges change every year, so tell us how your teams work and we can suggest current models. For other platforms, see our guide to mobile phones for business.

Samsung Knox explained

Samsung Knox is Samsung's platform for securing, deploying and managing Galaxy devices. It is built into the hardware and software of Galaxy phones, and Samsung sells a set of Knox cloud services on top. The main ones for a business fleet are:

Knox productWhat Samsung says it does
Knox SuiteAn all-in-one package to secure, deploy and manage work devices
Knox Platform for EnterpriseGovernment-grade security features for work devices and data
Knox Mobile EnrollmentEnrols corporate and employee-owned Galaxy devices in bulk
Knox ManageEnterprise mobility management optimised for Samsung, with cross-platform control
Knox E-FOTATests, schedules and deploys firmware updates across a fleet
Knox Asset IntelligenceUsage and device health insights to extend device life
Knox GuardRemote locking and security features against fraud and theft
Knox ConfigureTailors Galaxy devices for set purposes, such as kiosks
Knox CaptureTurns a Galaxy camera into a barcode scanner

Samsung's UK site says Knox Suite includes Knox Manage, Knox E-FOTA, Knox Mobile Enrolment and Knox Asset Intelligence. Knox services are licensed by Samsung, so check the current terms with Samsung or your device management provider. Many businesses use only Knox Mobile Enrollment alongside an existing device management tool.

Knox Mobile Enrollment and buying Galaxy phones

Knox Mobile Enrollment is the Samsung equivalent of zero-touch set-up. Samsung says devices bought in bulk from resellers in its Knox Deployment Program are uploaded to your Knox account automatically, so they enrol in your device management when first switched on. Devices bought elsewhere can be enrolled by scanning a QR code during set-up, and Samsung says enrolment still applies after a factory reset.

In practice that means:

  1. Register your organisation for Samsung Knox and set up Knox Mobile Enrollment.
  2. Connect it to your device management tool, such as Knox Manage, Microsoft Intune, Sophos Mobile or IBM MaaS360.
  3. Order phones through a supplier that can register them to your Knox account, or plan to enrol them by QR code.
  4. Staff switch the phone on, connect it and it enrols with your settings and apps.

When you buy Galaxy phones, tell us you use Knox Mobile Enrollment and we can help check how the order can be registered. Our zero-touch enrolment guide covers Apple and Samsung side by side.

Galaxy Enterprise Edition

Galaxy Enterprise Edition is Samsung's business version of selected Galaxy phones and tablets. According to Samsung's UK site, Enterprise Edition devices come with:

  • Knox Suite – Enterprise Plan, Samsung's full set of Knox management and security services
  • Up to seven years of firmware and maintenance updates, delivered monthly or quarterly, according to Samsung's security maintenance release policy
  • An extended product lifecycle, so the same models stay available for longer than standard devices
  • A three-year warranty, on Samsung's terms

The longer update period and availability are the main reasons fleets choose Enterprise Edition: you can keep one approved model for several years and keep it patched. The exact terms are Samsung's, so check them for the models you are considering. Ask us and we can help you source Enterprise Edition devices separately from your airtime.

Is Samsung business phones the right fit for you?

Rugged Galaxy devices

For construction, logistics, retail, field service and emergency services, Samsung's rugged range is designed for days that would break a standard phone. Samsung describes:

  • Water and dust resistance rated IP68, and drop testing to a military standard (results vary by device)
  • Programmable keys that can turn the device into a walkie-talkie, a torch, a scanner or another tool
  • A replaceable battery, so a shift does not end when the battery does
  • Barcode scanning through Knox Capture, which is sold separately
  • Samsung DeX on supported models, for a desktop-style experience on a monitor

Rugged devices are often shared between shift workers, so pair them with device management that can lock them to a few apps. See our guide to company mobile phones for running shared devices.

Samsung DeX

Samsung DeX lets supported Galaxy phones and tablets run a desktop-style interface on a monitor or TV, with several windows open at once and the phone usable as a touchpad. Wireless DeX works with compatible TVs that support screen mirroring. For some roles, such as hot-desking staff or people presenting in meeting rooms, that can reduce the need for a separate device. Samsung says DeX is supported on selected Galaxy devices and that some apps may not run in it, so test your own apps first.

How Forever Communications helps

We supply business airtime for Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets on EE Business and Three Business, and can also supply O2 Business and Vodafone Business. With the airtime kept separate, you buy the Galaxy devices outright or through your usual procurement and choose when to refresh them. We help you set them up:

  • Match Galaxy models to roles, from the Galaxy A range to rugged and Enterprise Edition devices
  • Check network compatibility for 5G, eSIM and Wi-Fi Calling
  • Help with Knox Mobile Enrollment so phones can enrol in your device management when switched on
  • Plan the rollout, including keeping numbers and timing around current contracts

Airtime pricing depends on the network, the number of lines and the term, so ask us for a quote. Contact us to get started.

Frequently asked questions

What is Samsung Knox?

Samsung Knox is Samsung's security and management platform for Galaxy devices. It is built into the phone, with cloud services such as Knox Mobile Enrollment, Knox Manage, Knox E-FOTA and Knox Guard available for businesses.

What is Galaxy Enterprise Edition?

It is Samsung's business version of selected Galaxy phones and tablets. Samsung's UK site says it includes Knox Suite – Enterprise Plan, up to seven years of firmware and maintenance updates, an extended product lifecycle and a three-year warranty.

Do I need Knox if I already use Microsoft Intune?

Not necessarily. Many businesses use Intune or another device management tool and add Knox Mobile Enrollment for automatic enrolment of Galaxy phones. Knox Manage is an alternative if you want Samsung's own management.

Are Samsung rugged phones worth it?

For field, warehouse and site teams they often are, because Samsung designs them for water, dust and drops and gives them replaceable batteries and programmable keys. For office staff a standard Galaxy phone is usually enough.

Can my Samsung phones go on any network?

We supply EE Business and Three Business, and can also supply O2 Business and Vodafone Business. Galaxy phones you buy separately can go on business plans on any of them; we can check 5G and eSIM support for your models. Ask us for a quote for the airtime.
